I have not been particularly wasteful on this trip, but I have managed to watch half my purchases fall into useless oblivion. The Scottish cobblestones have taken their toll on at least three pairs of my shoes. Two coffee casks have seen their day, and two pairs of gloves have gone on to glory. One umbrella has been lost in the depths of the Barron Theatre and one winter coat just isn’t practical. That’s a summary! Okay, so, maybe not half the purchases but, still, I am struck with how many things I’ve bought which ended up in total pointlessness.
Of course, I can’t help but wonder if my spending habits are just a sign of being abroad. After all, I’m not in my natural element. Life has been running at a different pace. Certainly my first semester of college I collected many useless items and articles, like a weird action I default to. But why perfectly good things like gloves and casks have to break when I only have one, I’ll never know! Murphy’s Law or something. In any event, I’m preparing a bag of odds-and-ends to donate to a charity shop. I think it’ll be a nice way to give back to this community, which has given me so much.
Sorry if this post was a wee bit useless, I suppose I needed to vent a little – and hopefully talk some more sense into myself!
